If you're reading this, that probably means you've heard about
'Character Fight', the short clip of Frollo and Phil bustin' caps on each other. The great illusionist Tony Wonder would call you a "Howdaydodat". If you don't know who Tony Wonder is,
click here, or start watching 'Arrested Development' on FOX.
Here's a quick history:
My friend and fellow character, Joe and I wanted to start a series of short video segments that had no point and no meaning, and that utilized characters from our workplace.
"What if Brer Bear put a beat down on Captain Hook?" we mused. We could do these absolutely random duels in various locales around MGM Studios. It could go on and on. Joe and I got charged up with the idea of creating our own action sequences. It was a creative outlet. I love editing. Joe loves "making with the funny". Oh, and we could show it off at the annual unofficial Disney MGM Character Banquet as a (quick! What's a good excuse for pulling this all off?!) morale booster.
We planned out most of the shots ahead of time. We cast the two most random characters we could think of, and "arranged" to have them duke it out near The Backlot Theatre(?) off of New York Street. This production, which some have claimed to have involved "a bunch of character cast members" actually was handled by four. We cast "E" as Phil, and she definitely brought her A-game. Joe and I did double duty, switching from Frollo, to cameraman, to stunt coordinator. And "Arvo" was best boy. It took us five mornings, obviously before the park opened. I really liked that song from 'Bush' at the time. I can't really listen to it anymore.
I hope you enjoy
'Character Fight' as much as we enjoyed putting it together and showing it to our friends at Disney, who at the time, needed a good laugh. Please view it sparingly as I am running out of bandwidth at a record clip.
E-mail me to let me know where you all are coming from!! And if you'd like to donate a dollar so I can pay for more bandwidth, that would be great.

On a similar note, I just read the Disney character expose in RADAR magazine (one of the reason I'm getting hits now). I thought it was brilliant. But in the end, the point of the article was lost to me. When Thuyan and I were interviewed, we were under the impression that it was to give characters their proper credit as a major part of the whole Disney experience. It really wound up focusing on the sexploits and debauchery of teenagers on college program. Maybe we were only worth $6.50 an hour?
