Ode to Sandra Dee
Just watched 'Grease" after many, many years and a flood of memories came rolling in. Namely, Olivia Newton John, my first love at five years old. When Sandy sings 'Hopelessly Devoted To You', I freeze in place, the hairs on my neck stand up, and my palms start to sweat. I could be walking across a busy intersection, and at the first note of that haunting slide guitar (normally a reviled instrument), I would stand there and probably be somersaulted over an eighteen wheeler. Just like when Pavlov's pup heard the dinner bell (what was that dog's real name?), my ears perk up and millions of years of instincts kick in, telling me: "WHATTA WOMAN!" What is it about Sandy and that song?I challenge anyone reading this (that's funny) to find an equal to ONJ in this day and age. Smoking hot with a touch of innocence. Able to sing and rollerskate at the same time?! C'mon! They just don't exist! Cameron Diaz? She wire fights! Charleze Theron? Can only rollerblade! Scarlett Johansen? She doesn't even...okay, well maybe.
